How we help our community.
New Home Construction & Sales
Sea Island Habitat for Humanity has built over 350 affordable homes since 1978.
Study after study has shown that owning the roof over your head does a lot more than keep out the rain. Homeownership is a crucial step in helping lower-income families move out of substandard housing into safe, decent, affordable homes. Children in particular benefit from homeownership. Children of homeowners are significantly more likely to stay in school than children of renters, according to a study in the Journal of Urban Economics.

At Habitat, we agree with the data: homeownership is key. Our homeowners are just that: owners. Despite the common misconception, Habitat does not give away free houses. Our families purchase their new houses through a 20- or 30-year mortgage at 0 percent interest.

Affordable housing continues to be a challenge in the Charleston region but we are dedicated to providing local working families with affordable homeownership options.

Critical Home Repair Program
Our Critical Home Repair Program has grown these past few years. In addition to our "new builds" this repair program focuses on existing homes in the community that are in vital need of updates. We focus on roof, door and window repairs to maintain the safety and climate of a home. We also repair access issues by fixing stairs, installing banisters and ramps when necessary.
