Getting Involved
Registration with our
Volunteer Coordinator is required:
Anne Randall, 768-0998
We
need volunteers for:
1. ReStores
Our
ReStores are in constant motion, always needing help. The Johns Island store is
open Monday - Saturday, 9am - 5pm & the Edisto Island store is open
Thursday - Saturday, 10am - 3pm. We need volunteers to run the cash
register, answer phones and schedule donation pick-ups, ride in trucks
to help pick up donations, unload and clean donated items, price
donated items and set them up in the showrooms, organize the warehouse
and showroom, and much, much more!
We also need your help to spread the word about volunteer opportunities
at the ReStores - tell your friends!
Another way to help out is to Sponsor a Day at the
ReStore. Your church or
organization can adopt a day at a ReStore to raise money for a
home. This is a wonderful way to bring people together and to let the
community know about your outreach programs.
2.
Construction
Sea
Island
Habitat welcomes volunteers of
all skill levels on the construction site. NO EXPERIENCE IS
NECESSARY! – just the willingness to help build a new life for a
deserving family. We provide supervision and tools.
The site operates Tuesday - Saturday, 8am - 4pm. Work
includes: foundation preparation, framing, vinyl siding, roofing,
landscaping, painting, trim work, and much more! Bring your church
group, your bridge group, your golfing buddies or your children (over
the age of fourteen).
If you are not a local volunteer or work group, housing can be arranged
for you.
Skilled construction workers:
Skilled
trim carpenters, electricians, block layers, plumbers, and any other
skilled workers who have time for some pro-bono work are also a
tremendous blessing to our affiliate. Please contact the Volunteer
Coordinator to find out when our houses will be at the right stage for
your work.
3.
Office
We depend on volunteers for almost everything -- helping with mailings,
fundraising, assisting families with financial planning, answering
phones, writing letters, scheduling volunteers, photography -- you name
it, we need it! No experience necessary, just a willing spirit. Some
of our more common needs are:
·
Administrative/General Office
·
Accounting/Collections
·
Family Services
·
Fundraising & Special Events
·
Public Relations
·
Volunteer Support
· Grant
proposal tasks
· Photography
4.
Committees
This
is the "behind the scenes" work - without it, no Habitat
houses could be built. There is a committee to suit every talent and
skill. Committees include:
·
Land Acquisition
·
Site Planning and Construction
·
Fundraising & Development
·
Public Relations
·
Family Services
·
Finance
