Welcome to Heritage Oaks
We’re excited to tell you that summer 2015 marked the beginning of our newest neighborhood, Heritage Oaks, located off Camp Road on James Island. Heritage Oaks will have 18 homes and will be built on the same model as Laurel Oak Grove where homes will be clustered together to preserve green space for residents to enjoy.
Heritage Oaks is off to a wonderful start thanks to a number of benefactors. The land was purchased with the help of a major grant from the Wells Fargo Housing Foundation and a generous contribution from Bishop Gadsden, who made SIHH the beneficiary of their November 2013 Gala for Giving. A grant from the City of Charleston helped defray phase 1 infrastructure costs.
Two lots have already been adopted: one by the Scott Stringfellow Foundation and one by Tom and Janet Fetter. An adoption pays for the hard costs associated with a specific lot, such as sidewalks and utility hook-ups.
Materials for the first home are being paid for with a donation from The Daniel Island Company. with grants from the Yaschik Foundation, the Claneil Foundation, the Charleston Junior League, and the Bakker Family Fund provided materials for the second home . We extend our heartfelt thanks to all of these donors, who are helping deserving area families to realize their long-held dreams of home ownership.
Phase 1 of the infrastructure work began in the Fall 2015 with home construction in early November. Heritage Oaks was the site of our April 2016 Women Build and we expect to complete 4 homes by the end of 2016.
