The LaBoard Family"Our future is now – I don’t need to have any other plans because I am so blessed to have my family and have my home,” said Kennitha LaBoard, when asked what she hopes the future will bring now that she’s a first-time homeowner.

Kennitha is the picture of contentment. She loves her new home in McCloud Place.

She is a Wadmalaw Island native, who for many years lived with her children in one room of her mother’s home. Now she has three bedrooms and two full baths.
Kennitha’s favorite room in the house is her own room and bathroom. Her children
follow her everywhere…except there; this is where she finds her indoor sanctuary.

Her outdoor sanctuary is easily spotted – it includes gardens and a beautiful lawn.
The Garden Club of Charleston selects an annual President’s Project, and this year
they selected Kennitha’s yard. They secured donations and discounts from area
garden supply companies, then installed sod, a raised vegetable garden and
landscaped around the home on April 18. Since then, Kennitha has had to give away
some of her squash because, as she says,“I have so much squash, if I were to eat it
all, I’d turn into a squash!” She also is enjoying home-grown okra, tomatoes,
zucchini and watermelon. She says it’s exciting for her children to go out to the
garden and bring in fresh vegetables. “It reminds me of ‘way back when we used
to do this at my grandma’s home, but that was a long time ago.”

The vegetable garden is also a blessing because Kennitha was recently laid off from
her job at Cummins. She is currently looking for another job, but feels blessed
that she still receives a generous severance package from Cummins. For now, Kennitha is working on getting fully unpacked and moved into her beautiful new home.
