Misty is a single mother of four: Thomas (22), Terrance (20), Sherri (18) and Chelsea (9) and she works for the Charleston County Department of Social Services. A safe place for her family was very important to her in choosing places to live, and knew that Habitat builds new homes in new communities and would provide a safe place. Her new community, Brownswood Place, has also provided her with a place to enjoy her hobbies of roller skating, reading her Bible, watching movies and spending quality time with her family. Being involved in her neighborhood is important to Misty. She hopes to share her knowledge from working at DSS with her neighbors of “how to keep their children safe from possible abuse and neglect concerns, and share resources that may help a family in any type of crisis that may occur”. Her family has set goals for themselves that were reinforced through them seeing their mother achieve her goal of homeownership. One of her children is now working full time, another is in college in Virginia to become a Registered Nurse and her youngest continues to grow and demand more attention, as nine-year-olds often do! Misty continues to set goals for herself; she hopes to one day become a business owner/investor. But the most important thing to her is to keep studying the Word of God and following Jesus Christ. At Sea Island Habitat, we also strive to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ by loving our neighbors as ourselves and welcoming all into our ministry. We want to thank everyone that has come together to help build the home for Misty and her family, especially Hans-Werner and Josephine Hector, the whole house sponsors that funded the building materials of her home. |
All qualified applicants will receive consideration for assistance without regard to race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. |
