Meet some of our newest homeowners

Cenk G.

I was born in Germany, lived there until I was 11, then my parents moved to Turkey. I lived in Ankara, the capital city of Turkey until I was 18, later on, I went to Istanbul to study law. I graduated in 2002. I practiced law there for 6 years, In 2011 I migrated to the US. I’ve been living in Charleston for 8 years now. I’ve been an Uber driver for the past 5 years and still driving with Uber. I like cooking, hiking, reading. swimming, kayaking, fishing, mountain biking and playing with my 2 dogs in my spare time.

I have two sons, Maurice (29) and Maison (20). I moved to Charleston in September of 2012 seeking a change from the big city and a new beginning. After being in Charleston for only a month, I became homesick and wanted to move back to NY but in December of 2012 I found my first job here at Ruby Tuesday’s and I’ve worked there for over six years till this day. Over the years I’ve met lots of friends and started feeling more at home. I started a second job at Harris Teeter in June of 2017 because I wanted to take the big step from gov’t housing to becoming a homeowner. I worked hard with the Charleston Trident Urban League to start the process and to get me financially prepared. Thanks to Sea Island Habitat For Humanity and their wonderful volunteers from all over, my dream of becoming a homeowner is coming true. Although it wasn’t easy, I wouldn’t change anything and I am forever grateful. Thanks Sea Island Habitat for helping me and my family!!

Jordan T.

I was born and raised here on Johns Island. I work at Roper St. Francis as a medical assistant. I have two lovely daughters, AnaLeigh (3) and Avery (1 month). Josh was born and raised in Spartanburg, SC and came down to go to The Citadel, where he graduated in 2013.

Oscar and Oneida

Approximately 10 years ago, my husband and I came into this country, just as many others, with the desire to have a better life and to contribute towards the daily sustenance of all those we left behind and who are forever in our hearts.
With time, our small family started to grow; and therefore, our desire to keep on going with our dreams, and our long term goals. With God’s help and all those who have opened doors for us, we have been able to get where we are today; with the dream and the goal, not so far ahead, of having our own small house. Thanks God to the Habitat Homeownership Program and each one of those individuals whose efforts make these dreams possible. For us, not only as parents, but for our children for a better future legacy. Thanks Habitat and all the volunteers so each family who has a need, will be able to own a small, simple home but filled with much love.

Greg and Remy

Greg and Remy met in 2005 and have been together for 14 years. They came to the USA for a better future for their family. They have 3 beautiful children. They are excited for the opportunity to own their first home so they can start making beautiful memories. Remy continues to volunteer at the ReStore on a weekly basis!
